The Lomonosov Moscow State University is one of the major providers of training for the professions associated with Biology. The Faculty of Biology was founded in 1930 on the base of Biological Department of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. Currently, it is a large scientific and research centre comprising all the important areas of modern Biology.
The Faculty of Biology incorporates 24 departments, 7 problem laboratories, and more than 50 research laboratories. Students of the Faculty have at their disposal 2 biological field stations, one of them located in Zvenigorod near Moscow and another on the White Sea coast. Students take practical courses in the Zoological Museum and the Botanical Garden. Also maintain a satellite campus in the town of Pushchino-na-Oke where the department of Physico-Chemical Biology and the branch of the Molecular Biology Department are established.
The Faculty of Biology has a long-standing record in environmental science. Specialist teaching divisions are led by active members of the Ecology, Physiology, Anthropology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Microbiology research groups.
